The biggest contemporary music hit of recent years – winning a Pulitzer Prize – was Become Ocean by the American John Luther Adams. The equally hypnotic follow-up Become Desert, commissioned partially by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, swaps the surging ocean for the blinding desert light. The orchestra also plays the world première of a piece by Jan-Peter Wagemans.
