Geneva, Switzerland—Inuksuit (Swiss Premiere)
April 3 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
John Luther Adams has long been interested in the connection humans have with nature. His concerns about melting ice led him to imagine this large-scale work, designed to be performed outdoors and for which the performers are dispersed and move around. Inuksuit is inspired by the stacks of stones built by the Inuit and the indigenous populations of the Arctic. These multifunctional sculptures allow them, among other things, to navigate in frozen spaces. They also specify sacred places. Each concert version is unique and intimately linked to the place in which it unfolds, including the topography and all the surrounding noises.
